Al Weddle
Al Weddle
Al Weddle was an 18-year-old seaman assigned to the USS Tangier at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. After the attack he was one of the divers sent into the water near the USS West Virgina, resting at the bottom of the harbor. Click here to hear his audio story. Additional audio and photos below.
Al Weddle passed away last weekend. He was 84. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Mr. Weddle will be missed by many, but especially his wife, five children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren and soon-to-be 16 great grandchildren.
If you have additional questions or want to leave a note for the family I would be happy to add to the website, contact me at newsdiva1@msn.com (9-10-07)=====================================================================
Notes/Links:
From Al Weddle's daughter Nan:
"My dad was very proud to have served in the military, and he loved to tell stories. When they were carrying him out to the ambulance, he was telling the medics about his days as a deep sea diver. His heart stopped on the way to the hospital. My family and I like to think that it was right in the middle of a sentence telling the stories that he loved to tell, and that he woke up in heaven...finishing his sentence."
"He loved his country, and he loved his family. He would tell everyone that my mom was his junior high school sweetheart, he was so proud to be married to her. They didn't marry until they were older, of course, and they were married for 55 years. Their love never wavered, and they were still in love all those years. They said "I love you" to each other every night before bed, and that's the last thing they said to each other, before the medics carried him out the door."
